An unknown individual or individuals drove a vehicle over headstones and burial sites at Brockton’s Riverview Cemetery last week.

A Jan. 13 Facebook post by Jana Nygard states, “I got a call that there were headstones laying in the road up at the cemetery. So Robyn, John and I went to check it out. This is what we found. My grandma and her brothers’ headstones were drug and graves were ran over.”

Jana and Robin Nygard called 911 dispatch to report the vandalism Thursday before posting about the crime on social media.

Jana told the Northern Plains Independent that no officers had responded to the call at press time four days later.

“As far as we know, no one responded, which is sad,” said Nygard. “I really hope someone comes forward with some information.”

Nygard said that car parts with Ford branding were found at the cemetery near some of the worst damage.

The Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice did respond to inquiries and attempts to reach the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office were unsuccessful at press time.

If you have information, contact Robert Nygard at 406-526-3573 or contact area law enforcement.
