In their second year of existence, the Post #49 Bulls are looking to continue providing quality baseball in northeastern Montana.

The Bulls feature 13 American Legion players including seven who played a good amount for last summer’s team. The Bulls play their home games in Froid.

Heading the list of returning players are Issac Johnson, who received All-State honors last season, and hard-hitting Bode Miller, who was selected to the All-Conference team. Other players back include Dylan Tabbert, Payton Hauge, Colter Oie, Braeden Romo and Walker Ator.

“Those are our seven core players and our strength,” assistant coach Scott Crain said.

Top pitchers for the Bulls are anticipated to include Ator, Hauge and Johnson. Hauge is a “super senior” after completing his freshman year at Dickinson State University.

“We had some experience and success last year, so we’re going in with our heads high and with more confidence,” Crain said.

The Bulls also feature some talented additions including speedy Zander Dean and Parker Sinks from Sidney and outfielder/second baseman Easton Tommerup from Plentywood. Justice Bengochea and Payton Perkins, both of Culbertson, and Kieran Hernandez of Medicine Lake should also help the Bulls.

“Everybody seems to get along,” Crain said. “They just all want to play baseball.”

Josh Johnson is the squad’s head coach. This year’s district tournament is scheduled in Glasgow on July 22-25.

“Our main goal is to be competitive,” Crain said. “We want to give the crowd a good show.”

The Bulls’ Babe Ruth team has 14 players. The team has its district tournament in Plentywood on KJune 11-13.

Crain said the Babe Ruth squad hasn’t played with its full roster yet this year due to conflicts. He’s optimistic heading into the tournament.
