Myrtle Marie “Ree” Mullin, 91, died March 17, 2021, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow.

She was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Yates Center, Kansas, to Martin and Myrtle Lake, the eldest of six children. With fiery red hair, she was very active singing in solos, duets, trios and acted in many plays throughout school. She was valedictorian of her eighth grade class and would have graduated valedictorian if it wasn't for a serious illness.

She loved cooking and baking and worked at the school with her sister Elmyra. She also worked at the M& M Cafe. She did all the donut-making for the basketball games in Lambert and, when she was busy with 4-H, she was the 4-H cooking class teacher.

She met Murten Keith Mullin and they married June 1, 1947, in the Lambert Lutheran Church. They made their home eight miles north of Lambert. As a homemaker and mother of six children, raising chickens, turkeys and geese, she would often express these were the happiest days of her life. After the death of her husband and son on June 9, 1966, in an accident, she decided to move her children to Culbertson to finish school.

She married Duane Miller on Dec. 7, 1973, and helped raise his four boys, David, Ryan, Loren and Mark Miller who joined Gail, Karla, Julie and Randy. While in Culbertson, she worked as a bar manager and took many religious education classes to start her own ministry and work as a Christian psychologist. She was devoted to her family and friends. She had a deep love for animals and cared for strays and homeless pets along with her own dogs that went everywhere she did.

She developed a passion for writing children's books and wrote a unique children's book for each grandchild. There were special 'Grandma Days” and these days involved cooking special international meals and finishing the days up playing scrabble. Great-grandchildren were so special to her, and she wanted a relationship even though her health didn't cooperate.

She eventually moved to Glasgow to be with her sister and spent her time with Rodney and Charlotte Larson and family. As her health declined, she was transferred to the Valley View Nursing Home, where she remained until her death.

She is survived by her children, Gail Anderson, Karla Cooper, Randy Mullin and Julie Johnson; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Murten Mullin; sons, Ronnie Lee and Michael Mullin and Mark and Loren Miller; sister, Charlotte Larson; and brother, George Lake.

The family is planning a memorial service for both Myrtle Mullin and Marilyn Lake sometime in July.
