Students Urged To Try Summer Activities Including Tennis, Art
Bryor Smith, coordinator of the Wolf Point Caŋku program, is excited about the free activities offered to area students this summer.
Smith said tennis instruction will take place each Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at Wolf Point’s tennis courts. Balls and rackets will be provided. The court time is available for a variety of playing levels.
“If the kids haven’t played before, I will teach them the rules and how to play,” Smith said.
Art instruction will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dumont building on Wolf Point’s campus of the Fort Peck Community College. Projects are anticipated to include kindness rocks, canvases and tie blankets.
The third annual Skate Jam is planned for June 28 in Wolf Point. A skating class is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. The competition will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. The fun will feature food and live music.
Smith says he is also planning to have a bigger video game for students this summer.
A disc golf tournament is scheduled for June 24 at Bridge Park.
Smith adds that an art fun day is scheduled for June 11 in Poplar and a water fun day is planned for July 18 in Brockton.
This is the third year of the five-year grant for the Caŋku program to provide the summer activities, which support students socially and emotionally.
“We’re just trying to gets kids more involved especially in the summer,” Smith said.
