Spartans Lose To Circle

The Scobey Spartans fell to defending state champion Circle, 17-25, 8-25, 17-25, in league volleyball action on Thursday, Sept. 17.

After trailing 16-6 in the first set, the net play of Emery Rouse helped the Spartans close the margin to 16-10.

The Wildcats moved out to a 22-1 lead, but Scobey then scored on an ace by Nikki Rush and a block by Rouse. After an ace by Ainsley Berryhill put the score at 23-17, Circle accounted for the set’s final two points.

After a kill by Scobey’s Chloe Handran closed Circle’s lead to 10-6 in the second set, Circle struck for the next 10 points for a 20-6 advantage. Handran scored another kill to put the score at 21-8, but the Wildcats tallied the last four points of the set.

Circle jumped out to a 22-14 lead in the third set. A kill and tip by Rouse got Scobey as close as 2417 until Circle ended the match.

Leaders for Circle in the match included Kate Nasner with 16 kills, three aces and four blocks. Charlie Moline finished with 27 assists. Lily Beery added nine kills and two aces.

Scobey will travel to Nashua on Thursday, Sept. 24, and host Lustre Christian on Saturday, Sept. 26.
