Medicare Open Enrollment is right around the corner. Medicare beneficiaries have the opportunity to review and make changes to their Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. Any changes made during open enrollment will take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
Even if you have been happy with your current Part D plan, it is important to review your coverage each year. Medicare Part D plans can change from one year to the next, including monthly premiums, deductibles, covered medications, preferred pharmacies and prescription drug costs. A plan that worked well for you in 2026 may not necessarily be the best option for you in 2027.
There is an especially important change this year for our clients who currently have a Silver-Script Part D prescription drug plan. The Silver-Script Part D coverage in Montana will not continue for the 2027 plan year. If you currently have a SilverScript Part D plan, you will need to choose a new prescription drug plan for 2027. We strongly encourage SilverScript clients to contact our office and schedule an appointment during open enrollment so there is plenty of time to review available options and select new coverage.
Our SHIP counselors can use the Medicare Plan Finder to compare available Part D plans based on your individual prescriptions and pharmacy. The comparison can show which plans cover your medications and provide an estimate of what your total prescription drug costs may be for the year.
Remember to open and read any mail you receive from your current Medicare plan this fall. These notices contain important information about changes to your coverage for 2027.
