Track Athletes Advance To State Meet
Area track athletes emerged with state berths after solid performances at the Northern B divisional track meet in Glasgow during the weekend.
Adalynn Smith and Amya Martinez each advanced to state in multiple individual events for the Wolves.
Smith finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.59, fourth in the 400 at 1:01.77 and sixth in the 100 at 13.38 seconds.
Amya Martinez earned fourth place in the discus with a personal best of 109-0 and fourth in the shot put with a season best of 34-3.
Maci Fourstar-Sibley came through with a personal best of 107-6 to capture third place in the javelin.
Anna Matejovsky cleared 9-6 in the pole vault for fourth place.
Layla Headdress, a freshman, ran a personal best time of 5:49.71 for fifth place in the 1600-meter run.
Wolf Point’s girls’ 400-meter relay team featuring Navella Weeks, Matejovsky, Harper Weeks and Smith finished fifth with a time of 51.96 seconds.
Sean Hamilton accounted for all of the points for Wolf Point’s boys. The senior placed second with a personal best of 142-4 in the discus and fifth with a mark of 43-3 in the shot put.
Kayden Charette came close to placing as he was seventh in both the high jump at 5-6 and long jump at 17-9.
Poplar’s Mila Gramling placed third in the 3200 at 12:52.30 and sixth in the 1600 at 5:52.15 to highlight the Indians’ weekend.
Kellyn Azure ran the 3200 in 13:06.08 for fourth place in the 3200.
Liliana O’Neal posted a personal best of 106-8 for fifth place in the discus.
In the boys’ division, Poplar’s Eljin Greybear finished sixth in the 3200 with a personal best time of 10:33.77.
Raylando Red Eagle took eighth in both the 1600 and 3200.
Wolf Point’s girls tied for seventh place in the team standings with 35 points. Poplar was 11th with 13 points. The top three teams were Glasgow with 80, Shelby with 77 and Malta with 69 points.
In the boys’ team standings, Wolf Point was 11th with 10 points and Poplar was 14th with one point. Glasgow won the divisional title with 85.5 points while Fairfield was second with 78 points.
The Class B state meet starts Thursday, May 28, in Missoula.
