Froid High School valedictorian Lilly Johnson explains that FFA played a major role for her at the school.

“Of the many intracurricular and extracurricular activities that I have been involved in, FFA is my favorite,” Johnson said. “I am fond of the agriculture industry and the people within the organization are some that I look forward to seeing every competition. Also, FFA is probably the place where I have experienced the most growth as a person.”

She has achieved a great amount of success in the agriculture field. Three times she has been the grand senior beef showman and twice she has won the grand market beef award at the Roosevelt County Fair. In addition, she is a NILE merit heifer recipient.

“If I had to choose one of the many, many fond memories throughout my high school career, my favorite would probably be the National FFA trip that I got to go on,” Johnson said. “I made new friends, got closer with existing ones, experienced a bunch of new things and made a week worth of memories.”

Johnson’s other involvement has included Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society, student council, honor choir, basketball and volleyball. In the classroom, Johnson’s favorite class is career prep with FFA advisor Shannon O’Brien. “It is an opportunity to work on scholarships, FFA things or really anything else I need to do,” Johnson said. Her second favorite class is yearbook.

Her favorite teachers are O’Brien, Hunter Krogedal and Katie Rios. “All three of them have acted both as mentors and friends to me and I am very grateful for them,” Johnson said.

She has attended classes in Froid since kindergarten.

“The part about living in Froid that I like the best is that everyone knows each other,” Johnson said. “Even though this is not always a good thing, more often than not, it is because it means that there will always be someone there for you, no matter what it is. The support in this town is incredible.”

After high school, she will attend Dickinson State University and pursue a degree in farm and ranch management. She is hoping to earn her degree in three years since she already has a good amount of college credits through online courses.
