Bainville High School senior Rowan Wilson has earned honors in both athletics and other activities during his busy last four years. The three-sport athlete is also involved in Business Professionals of America, FFA and National Honor Society.

Wilson has qualified for the national BPA conference in the last three years with Bainville’s parliamentary procedure team. He was also presented the Ambassador Torch Award during his senior year.

This year, Bainville’s students will leave for the national conference in Nashville, Tenn., on May 5.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Wilson said of nationals.

A goal is for the team to place in the top 10 at nationals. “Our team has some unfamiliar faces, but our parliamentary procedures knowledge is there,” he explained.

Wilson’s favorite categories in FFA are agronomy, farm business management and mechanics. Wilson, who is the Bainville chapter’s president, has placed 11th at the state meet in mechanics.

He likes agronomy and mechanics competitions because he sees a good relation of what he might want to do in his life.

Many lessons have been learned by Wilson through FFA. “You learn how to communicate and become comfortable with shaking hands,” he said. Wilson said many friends have been made through the process.

His favorite sport is football where he earned All-State recognition for the Bulldogs.

“I like that everybody is doing their own job on a play to put the puzzle together,” Wilson said of why he loves football.

Wilson will continue his football career at Bismarck State College in North Dakota. He says that going from being a quarterback for the six-man game to the 11-man game will require him to perform more pre-snap reads and make plays on schedule.

Highlights of his high school football career included winning a conference title during his junior year. “That whole season was awesome,” Wilson said.

Positive memories during his senior season included beating Jordan in the first week of the season.

As far as basketball, Wilson earned All-Conference honors as a senior. The Bulldogs advanced to the divisional tournament this past season.

“I definitely think there weren’t a lot of people in February who thought we would still be playing in March,” Wilson said. “There was a lot of team growth that should be a strong point in the future.”

During his track career, Wilson has qualified for state in the 800, 1600 and relays.

His goals this season are to advance to the state meet in both relays, 800 and possibly the 1600.

Wilson will study agri-business at Bismarck State. His career plans are to go into ag sales and ag lending possibly in this area.
