Culbertson Council Unpacks Sheriff’s Report

The Culbertson Town Council met in regular session on Monday March 9. at 6:30 p.m. Mayor Todd Gabriel was present, as were Dave Solem, Terri Merrill, Bob Jasper and guests Amber Fox and Mike Olson.

A bathhouse construction update was provided. Plumbing and elliptical work are done, but Geib has some fascia left to complete. There is approximate $12,943.14 available in the remaining budget, pending electricians Geib’s invoices.

The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office monthly report included 50 calls for services, three arrests and 27 citations. The citations consisted of failure to carry proof or exhibit insurance in vehicle, operating without liability insurance, unlawful possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle on U.S. Highway 2, front side window tinting allowing less than 24 percent light, stop sign violations, defective signal lamps, failure to park within 18 inches of right hand curb or shoulder of roadway, failure to have vehicle equipped with white license plate lamp legible for 50 feet, operating with expired registration, failure to signal intention to turn, operating with expired registration and failure to secure, load, operate a vehicle with license plates properly displayed.

A resolution was approved signaling the council’s intent to increase sewer rates.

During the public works report, it was reported that the town had two water leaks within days of each other; one at the fairgrounds and one in front of the old armory. Both have been repaired and water is flowing again.

The Government Review Study Commission held its initial meeting and first public hearing and have published its tentative report. A second public hearing will be held on Wednesday, March 18, at 6 p.m. at the town hall building on Broadway Avenue.

Mayor Gabriel discussed a few items for future consideration such as road repairs, the annual town clean-up effort and replacing the flooring in the community center and town office. He added that Ike’s Pond will be paid off sometime this summer and full control will then be given over to the town. Discussion will need to be held about plans to move forward with maintenance and equipment.

The next regular meeting and public hearing are set for Monday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m.
