Bainville Unveils Scorer’s Table In Honor Of Lambert
The community of Bainville remembered an individual who spent countless volunteer hours at area sporting events through the years.
Lyle Lambert, who passed away in October 2024 at the age of 73, volunteered at the scorer’s table and crow’s nest for Bainville’s athletic events, both varsity and sub-varsity, for more than 50 years.
On Friday, Jan. 2, the Lyle Lambert scorer’s table was unveiled during home basketball games against Savage.
Bainville’s activities director Tanya Wilson said the project was paid for through a partnership with the Bainville Volunteer Fire Department and the Bainville Bulldog Booster Club. Lambert served as Bainville’s fire chief.
“After Lyle’s passing, the Bainville Volunteer Fire Department and Bainville Booster Club communicated about a way they could dedicate something to show Lyle’s commitment of serving our community,” Wilson said. It was determined that the scorer’s table would be an excellent visual project.
She added about the unveiling, “I’ve heard a lot of compliments. The community was very excited.”
Wilson worked side to side with Lambert at many home athletic contests throughout the years. “Lyle always showed up at the table or crow’s nest with a sense of excitement and optimism of how the game would play out. He genuinely cared about the athletes.”
In a January 2023 story in this newspaper, Lambert said he started running the scoreboard for the school’s athletic contests shortly after high school. “I was always at the games anyway,” he said.
Lambert, who also officiated elementary basketball games at one time, said in the 2023 article that he appreciated the relationships that were made with referees, players and coaches throughout the years. He knew some of the current coaches back when they were playing with their high schools.
