Area students tried their best to shoot baskets while riding donkeys during an enjoyable fundraising event in Bainville held on Friday, May 2.

The Bainville FFA organized the donkey basketball games, which also included Culbertson FFA students and Tumbleweed 4-H Club members.

Kellan Standley, Bainville’s FFA advisor, explained the activities were to benefit the school’s program, but Bainville is thankful that Culbertson FFA was willing to help assist with the night’s entertainment.

He said this was the second straight year for donkey basketball in Bainville. The event has taken place in four or five years during Standley’s 12 years at the school.

Each of the contests consisted of two 10-minute halves. Donkey Sports Inc., from Washington state provided the animals.

“It’s pretty fun,” Tally Berwick, Bainville’s outgoing FFA president, said of playing. “They don’t always move really well or stop.”

Funds raised helps FFA students attend the state and national conventions as well as the Ag Expo. Bainville’s organization features 24 students.

Prior to the games, the Bainville FFA alumni served a meal to assist in raising funds.

Newly elected officers for Bainville FFA include president Rowan Wilson, vice president Addison Hansen, secretary Hailey Berwick, treasurer Azure Mahoney, sentinel Parker Berwick, parliamentarian Kaston Hofer, historian Chandi Johnson and junior advisor Lane Giese.
