Area Jobs for Montana Graduates students headed to Helena last week to attend the annual IGNITE career development state conference.

They were able to catch up with Attorney General Austin Knudsen for a visit and a private tour of the state capitol building. Students were able to ask questions and were also challenged with a few quiz questions about how state government works. Knudsen, his wife Christie and youngest daughter Reagan took the time to show students the Senate Chamber, House Chamber, the old Supreme Court room (where the first episode of Yellowstone was filmed), as well as the rotunda.

Events began the next day with an opening ceremony featuring Helena’s mayor Wilmont Collins.

Over 330 students from across Montana gathered to compete in job and employability skills competitions, poster/banner competitions and a group/individual talent show.

Kobe Nickoloff took first place for his career exploratory notebook. Joseph Mc-Carty won second place in individual talent for a recitation. Macy Lambert took first place for her meme. Colton Spacht was awarded the Chairman’s Recognition. Kailey Mathis took first place with her poster in the 10th grade event. Morgan Lucas took first in public speaking for 12th grade. Mandy Red Eagle took first place with her poster for 11th grade.

Following the awards ceremony, students took time to check out the Great Northern Carousel in Helena and their famous ice cream.

In addition to heading home with awards, students left with new friends, a greater understanding of networking and career opportunities as well as an understanding that there are many people across the state who want to help them find the career path that is right for them.
