Are You Ready For Playoff Football?

Culbertson Hosts Belts on Saturday

By Bill Vander Weele

The Culbertson Cowboys will begin their football playoff run with a home game against Belt starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.

In last week’s Class C state poll, Culbertson was ranked sixth and Belt sat in eighth place.

“It will be challenging,” Culbertson Coach Brian Manning said of playing Belt. “They like to spread teams out, run motion and pass the ball a lot.”

Belt’s 7-1 record includes seven wins of 30 points or more. The Huskies’ lone loss came at Fort Benton by a 2720 final.

Manning said Belt’s quarterback Bridger Vogl is an athletic player.

“They have some good receivers,” Manning said. “They do run the ball to keep you honest.”

The coach added that Belt’s tight end is an excellent player on both sides of the football.

After dropping the game against Fairview, the Cowboys had a solid week of practice working on a variety of areas.

“They have been in good spirits,” Manning said. “We had a really good week of practice.”

Drummond/ Phillipsburg and Thompson Falls are the two top ranked teams in Class C eight-man football.

If the Cowboys defeat Belt, they will either travel to Thompson Falls or host Circle in the second round.

The championship game is set for Saturday, Nov. 20.
