We’ve heard from several Montana homeowners who are perplexed by the numbers on reappraisal notices mailed to them by the state Department of Revenue over the last month. Those notices, for those unfamiliar, inform property owners that the department has updated the valuations used to calculate property tax bills, something it does on a two-year cycle. Based on the first quarter of 2025, Roosevelt County ranks fourth in the state as far as the county receiving funds from oil revenue. Roosevelt County’s government received $657,800.00 for the quarter. The top three counties were Richland at $3,907,088, Fallon at $788,979 and Powder River at $698,079. Sheridan County is fifth at $166,995.83. Roosevelt County’s collections were $3,688,043.16.
