After receiving proposals from the Wolf Point Education Association at the previous meeting, WOlf Point School District officials provided feedback during the bargaining session on Monday, March 21. The Wolf Point Education Association’s salary proposal was a 10 percent increase to the base salary for 2022-2023, a 5 percent increase to the base salary for 2023-2024 and a 5 percent increase

There will be three contested races for Wolf Point School board seats this year. Incumbent Linda L. Hansen along with Jaronn Boysun and Roxanne Gourneau have filed for the District 2 position. Filing for the district at-large position were Bif Loucks and Robert A. Zimmerman. Dr. Mark Zilkoski didn’t file for re-election. Both are three-year terms. Ronald Jackson and Keith Higgins

The Wolf Point City Council held their regular meeting March 21. Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board members Alex Smith and Lawrence Hamilton were in the audience and spoke during the Fort Peck Tribal Council report. Heather Dawn Smith, also known as Heather Dawn Yellow Owl, 31, of Wolf Point, appeared in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge John T. Johnston and made a not guilty plea on March 22 on charges of second degree murder. If convicted of the most serious crime, Smith faces a maximum of life in prison, a $250,000 fine and five years of supervised release. Smith was released pending further proceedings.

A Fort Peck Indian Reservation man who admitted to aiding in attacking a man in the head with a bat has been sentenced to 54 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, U.S. Attorney Leif M. Johnson said. Rick John Morales Jr., 32, who resides in both Wolf Point and Poplar, pleaded guilty in November 2021 to assault resulting in serious bodily injury, aiding and abetting.
