Saturday Fires Keep Local Crews Running

A barbecue hosted by the Poplar Volunteer Fire Department was interrupted by sirens before the grill was even set up Saturday, April 17. The barbecue, planned for 2 p.m. at the cultural center in Poplar, was intended to thank area first responders for their assistance during recent fires that threatened residences in Poplar. The day began with a siren for a grass fire north of Poplar at 9 a.m.

Unemployment Rate Declines In Montana

Montana’s unemployment rate declined in March to 3.8 percent, the state’s third consecutive month of lower unemployment rates. Nationwide, the unemployment rate was 6.0 percent during March. “For the third consecutive month this year, Montana has seen the benefits of a safe reopening as our unemployment rate continues its downward trend,” Gov. Greg Gianforte said in a press release.

Poplar’s girls’ track team earned 22 points at the Baker Invitational on Saturday, April 17. The long-distance running ability of Jazmin Gorder highlighted Poplar’s efforts. The junior finished first in the 3200 with a time of 12:47.04. Gorder ran the 1600 in 5:53.43 for second place. Keandra Martell put together a solid meet.
