Class B Schools Might Switch To Four Divisions

It appears that Class B will be divided into four divisions for sports starting next school year.

Wolf Point’s activities director Eric Peterson explained that two schools are leaving Class B. Bigfork is moving to Class A and Forsyth is dropping to Class C. Additions to Class B starting next school year will include Chinook, Fairview, Park City, Ennis, Lone Peak, Darby and Superior.

With Class B to feature 45 teams, a committee developed two proposals for divisions. The four division proposal received more votes than the three division proposal.

The four division proposal features Wolf Point and Poplar competing in the Eastern Division and District 2B. Other schools in the district are Glasgow, Chinook, Harlem and Malta.

District 3B in the Eastern Division will include Baker, Colstrip, Fairview, Lame Deer, Lodge Grass and St. Labre.

The Southern division will feature Huntley Project, Joliet, Park City, Red Lodge, Roundup, Shepherd, Columbus, Lone Peak, Manhattan, Sweet Grass and Three Forks.

The Central division will consist of Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank, Fairfield, Rocky Boy, Shelby, Anaconda, Broadwater, Ennis, Jefferson and Whitehall. The Western division will feature Arlee, Darby, Florence/Carlton, Loyola Sacred Heart, Powell County, Lincoln County, Plains, St. Ignatius, Superior, Thompson Falls and Troy.

Peterson said the committee will now present the information from the survey to the MHSA so it can be determined if the new divisions will be an item during the November board meeting.
