Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team made a statement when the Wolves edged traditional powerhouse Malta, 58-57, on Saturday, Dec. 17.
The Wolves lost by wide margins in both of their games against Malta last season, so the victories definitely helped Wolf Point gain confidence early this season.
“Our defense was a lot more engaged,” Wolf Point Coach Cole Hanks said of the difference.

Culbertson’s boys’ basketball squad put up a good fight before losing to a strong Lustre Christian team, 54-41, in Culbertson on Saturday, Dec. 17.
The undefeated Lions gained a 12-7 during the first quarter of action. The Cowboys responded with 13 points in the second period to cut the margin to 22-20 at the half.
Lustre accounted for 18 points in the third quarter to earn a 40-30 advantage.

The Indians trailed 10-8 at the end of the first quarter, but Poplar accounted for 20 points in the second period for a 28-21 advantage. Bailey Dupree scored seven points in the quarter and Cammie Martell connected on a pair of three-pointers.
