Constance Melvene Youpee, 15, died Thursday evening, Dec. 1, 2022, at her home in Nashua. She was born May 13, 2007, at Poplar Community Hospital to Karen Tuttle (mother) and Charles “Rocky” Youpee Sr. (father). She was born Mother’s Day that year. She attended Poplar Schools until seventh grade, then went to Circle of Nation in Wahpeton, N.D., for eighth grade. She then spent her freshman and sophomore years at Glasgow High School. She loved her family deeply and cherished every moment spent with them, along with all her friends near and far. In and out of school, her hobbies and activities she really enjoyed was driving. She was so excited and proud of herself when she got her license and any chance she got to be the driver. She also enjoyed video games, choir, playing her ukulele and school plays. She was the president of FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) and Art Club. She had a huge love for art. She also loved animals of all kinds, but especially the family’s dogs. She is survived by her mother, Karen and Travis Tuttle; sisters, Tiona and Theada Jones, Lillian, Taini and Evette Tuttle; brothers, Charles Jr., Quentin and Lennox Youpee, and David Tuttle; and grandparents, Everett Jones, Menford Jones, Connie Fast Horse and Rose Morsette. Her funeral was held Monday, Dece. 12, at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment followed at Fort Kipp Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.

Emerson Vaden Comes Last Sr., 54, died Nov. 28, 2022, in Billings. He was born on July 25, 1968, to Leroy Comes Last and Iris Sepulveda in Poplar. He was also raised by his grandmother Rena Comes Last growing up. He attended Job Corps and Chemawa Indian School. He had his G.E.D. and his high school diploma. He worked at A & S Industries and Fort Peck Tech and had been a firefighter. He had many friends and relatives. Growing up, he liked to go hunting with his dad. He loved to go out to his dad’s and shoot gophers. He loved to go out to the garage and take things apart and try to put them back together. He enjoyed going for long cruises and being with his family. He had two children with Sarah Longee, Iris Jean Comes Last Youpee and Emerson Vaden Comes Last Jr. He met Wilma Youngman in 1995 and spent his life with her and his granddaughter. He was one of 11 siblings: five brothers, Gordon, Richard, Taylor, Edison and Lucas Comes Last; and five sisters, Kristi, Amber, Becky, Malissa Comes Last and Sarah Darnell. He is survived by his longtime companion, Wilma Youngman; father, Leroy Comes Last; children, Iris Comes Last Youpee and Emerson Comes Last Jr.; his step-daughter, Winona Longee; numerous grandchildren; brothers, Eddie and Luke Comes Last; and sisters, Sarah Darnell, Amber Comes Last, Kristi Comes Last, Rebecca Comes Last and Malissa Comes Last. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gordon and Richard Comes Last, Tito and Benjamin Running Bear and Delvin Four Bear; and sister, LeRay Comes Last. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment was in the Comes Last Family Cemetery in Poplar. Dennis Buck “Denny” Blount, 36, of Wolf Point died Nov. 29, 2022. He was born to George William Blount III and Candace J. Duboise on Aug. 21, 1986, in Wolf Point. He was raised in Frazer, where he sported Bearcub blue until he was a junior in high school. He then transferred to Wolf Point High School where he excelled academically and played football and basketball. When tragedy struck on Sept. 11, 2001, he knew he wanted to serve and fight for his country. After graduating from high school in 2004, he joined the United States Marine Corps, making his commitment at the early age of 17. Accompanying him on his journey were four of his friends and classmates, Daniel Castaneda, Orin Cantrell, Frank Damon and Frankie Archdale. He successfully completed boot camp at Camp Pendleton, in Oceanside, Calif. He served two tours in Iraq as an infantry soldier. He devoted his life to being a Marine and loving the country he unselfishly served. The trauma Denny experienced while on deployment stayed with him. However, remembering the good memories, lifelong friendships and his service to this country alleviated some of his combat fatigue. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps on Oct. 16, 2011. He obtained his commercial driver’s license and worked several jobs as a heavy equipment operator, truck driver and laborer. His latest employer was Knife River Construction in Billings. He was always working and, if he wasn’t working, he was hunting or fishing. He was a true outdoorsman. He never stayed idle long.

Colleen Emma Jean Devereaux- Romero, 60, of Poplar died Nov. 30, 2022. She was born on March 29, 1962, to Linda Red Boy. She attended school in Brockton where she grew up with her brothers Kevin Devereaux, the late Kenny and Grace Devereaux and John Red Thunder, Johnelle Jones, and Jamie Red Thunder. In the spring of 1982, her daughter Darcee was born, followed by her second daughter, Linda, three years later in the fall of 1985. She called Billings home for many years, as well as Great Falls. She made many lifelong friends in her travels and worked various jobs. She returned to Poplar later in life and resided there her death. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family visiting, playing dice and making her plastic canvas crafts. Charlene Kay Birdsbill, (Zit’Caná Wiyán), 61, of Wolf Point died Nov. 29, 2022, at the Billings Clinic. She was born on July 24, 1961, in Poplar to Verdell Birdsbill and Barbara Swifteagle Birdsbill. She had two older siblings, Carmen and Colleen. She grew up and attended school in Wolf Point. She graduated Wolf Point High School in 1979. A year later, she attended Billings VoTech. She worked with the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 25 years and returned in February 2014. She also enjoyed her second job, working at the Silverwolf Casino for many years. However, her favorite job was being a mom to her children. She had three children, Elizabeth, Emorie and Daniel. She was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints. She was always feeding the missionaries and taking her children to church. Although she was always late, she stuck in the front row and always was there on potluck day. She had many hobbies. Wilmer H. “Harvey” Fast, 92, passed away peacefully to his heavenly home Nov. 19, 2022, at Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow. Harvey was born on June 5, 1930, on the Fast family homestead in Lustre, Mont., to Peter and Aganetha (Ratzlaff) Fast. Harvey was the youngest of nine children (six living and three died in infancy). The older siblings had gone to choir practice and, upon returning home, their father announced they had a “new baby brother” delivered by Mrs. J.J. Baker, the local midwife. Times were hard and that made an older sibling say “we have enough work already!” This was the beginning of the terrible dust storms and drought of the 1930s. Harvey attended Star School half a mile from the homestead for one year before it closed in 1937. The closure was due to the enrollment dropping by seven children when the cousins from the Abe Fast family made the move back to Mountain Lake, Minn. He then finished his grade school years a Todd Lake School four miles from home. Harvey received Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at a young age after attending an evangelistic meeting and was baptized in a pond close to Todd Lake. Harvey’s dad had purchased a house from the Fort Peck Dam project and had it moved to Lustre where it became the family home. One chore he had every morning before school was digging a cistern by hand in the basement of the house by filling a bucket with dirt so his mother could then pull it up with a rope. He also attended Glasgow High School which required staying with his aunt Helen Ratzlaff and later boarding at the Waitschies apartments, graduating in 1948. Harvey married Gladys Funk on Oct. 28, 1951. They were blessed with four children: oldest daughter Shirley, followed by identical twin daughters, Jean and Joan and son Warren. Harvey was a member of the Lustre MB Church. In October of 2021, they celebrated 70 years of marriage. Preceding him in death were his wife, Gladys Fast; parents, Peter and Nettie Fast; brothers, Ervin (Ruth) Fast, Marvin (Esther) Fast and Walter Fast; sisters, Evangeline (Joe) Wiens and Edna Fast; son-in-law, Duane Nasner; and great-grandchildren, Blake Reddig, Magdalena, Delilah, Eden, Alice and Elijah Unger. Harvey is survived by his children: Shirley Nasner of Wolf Point, Mont., Jean and Ken Joiner of Bozeman, Mont., Joan and Keith Unger of Lustre, Mont., and Warren and DeeDee Fast of Lustre, Mont.; 10 grandchildren: Lynae (Nasner) and Gary Gackle, Scott and Jennifer Nasner, Andy and Joy Unger, Jennifer Unger, Chris and Jess Unger, Luke and Jennifer Unger, Rochelle Unger, Rebecca (Unger) and Randy Reddig, Tony and Amy Fast, Craig and Lindsay Fast; great-grandchildren: Hannah, Caleb and Grace Gackle, Xavier, Kate, Matthew and Myah Nasner, Isabelle, Canaan, Edwin, Jedidiah and Everly Unger, Swayze Vivrette, Ada Unger, Avery, Ryder and Ella Unger, Cameron, Harlo and Marlee Reddig, Natalie, Aleah and Maycie Fast, Addilyn Harrison, Janelle and Maxwell Fast; and many friends and family. Misty Dawn Iron Leggins, 46, of Poplar died Nov. 14, 2022. She was born Nov. 10, 1976, to Jsames and Clarice Iron Leggins in Poplar. Her parents died when she was really young, so her aunt and uncle Phillip and Pauline Granbois raised her. She attended Poplar Schools and graduated in 1996. She grew up with close friends she called sisters She attended Fort Peck Community College and was employed at Nancy’s Housekeeping. She married Joseph Savior Sr. on July 7, 2007. They later divorced. She is survived by her children, Gage Iron Leggins, Joseph Savior Jr., Precious Savior, Cherish Savior, Mystical iron Leggins and Stormy Medicine Elk; and three grandchildren, Adrian, Royal and Abel; brothers, Mike Longtree and Charles Longtree. She was preceded in death by her sister, Claren Longtree. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Interment was at St. Ann’s Cemetery.
