Chickenpox Cases On Rise In Youth

Department of Public Health and Human Services officials are reporting a recent increase chickenpox cases reported in school-aged children. At least half of these infections were acquired from an adult family member with shingles. Chickenpox, or varicella, can be a serious illness and is easily preventable with vaccination. In 2022, there were 23 reported cases of chickenpox in Montana.

The Lustre Christian High School track team won first place at the District 3C meet at Glasgow on May 13. The LCHS awards ceremony was held Tuesday, May 9. Ten students were inducted into the National Honor Society this spring at LCHS. Dr. Frank Lenihan, chaplain, closed the ceremonies with a prayer of dedication for these students. The 2023 yellow tag paddlefishing season on the Yellowstone River and Missouri River downstream of Fort Peck Reservoir started Monday, May 15. Monday is a designated catch-and-release only day, meaning the only place paddlefishing is allowed May 15 is at Intake Fishing Access Site (FAS).
