Donald “Alan” Stanford
Donald “Alan” Stanford, 73, passed away in Billings, Mont., on Dec. 3, 2025, due to medical complications.
A lifelong resident of Culbertson, Alan was born on Oct. 12, 1952, to Greel and Hazel Stanford. As the youngest of six children, he grew up with a deep connection to his family and his hometown.
After graduating from Culbertson High School, Alan became a man of many trades. He spent much of his life behind the wheel of a truck or working with his hands as a carpenter. Those who knew him best knew where to find him when the workday was done: either on the back of a Harley Davidson or enjoying a cold drink and a good story at the local bar. His passion for motorcycles was sparked early on when his siblings gifted him his first bike — a gesture that fueled a lifelong love for the road.
When he wasn’t riding, Alan was almost certainly with a dog. He rarely went through life without a loyal canine companion by his side.
Alan is survived by his siblings, Irene Johnson of Culbertson and Mike Stanford of Costa Rica; and his lifelong friend who was more like a brother, Bob Royan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Greel and Hazel; and his brothers, Robert, John and Ed Stanford.
There will be a spreading of ashes at Charley Creek on April 18, 2026, at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon at the Culbertson Town Hall.
