Culbertson High School senior Genesey Deen likes being involved in different areas at Culbertson High School.

She has been a representative on the student council for two years.

“I like to be a part of it,” Deen said of the organization.

She is looking forward to the Explore America trip in April, which will include time in Washington, D.C., Boston, New York and Philadelphia.

Deen is especially excited to see New York. “It seems like a cool place to go. It’s in all the movies,” the senior said.

She has been a member of Culbertson’s cheer squad since her freshman year. She explained that her positive relationship with teacher/advisor Tiffany Nielsen was a reason she joined the squad.

Another positive of being on the cheer team for Deen is being able to spend time with close friend and fellow senior Jordan Purvis.

“I like cheering with Jordan,” Deen said.

A highlight for the cheer season is a dance routine performed at the district basketball tournament. “I’m excited this year. I like it a lot,” she added.

In the classroom, her favorite subject is world history and her favorite teacher is Dave Solem.

“Mr. Solem teaches you really well,” Deen explained. “You can remember it without looking at the books.”

She has gone to Culbertson school since kindergarten and likes that everybody knows everybody.

After high school, she plans to attend Montana Tech and study radiology/lab technician. She explains she did a work study at the hospital and that she got interested in that field.
