Becker Wins Title At Culbertson’s Bee
Beau Becker, a seventh-grade student, emerged as the spelling bee champion at Culbertson School on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
Becker said he prepared for the competition by working with his grandmother four days and his mother three days.
The winning word that Becker spelled correctly was Heron.
Ironically, after going through a medical ordeal last summer, two of the words that Becker needed to spell during the bee were “pediatrics” and “prognosis.”
Chloe Acson, an eighth-grader, placed second in the competition. She won a spell-off against Roman Emerson, an eighth-grader, who took third place.
Parker Steppler, a seventh-grader, also qualified for the Roosevelt County bee by placing fourth.
Easton Steppler, a seventh-grader, took fifth place and is an alternate for the county bee.
The Roosevelt County spelling bee is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, at 1 p.m. and will be held in Brockton.
