Commissioners Approve Projects

The Roosevelt County commissioners approved security improvements for the county health department and aging services building during their meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The additional cameras will cost $1,754. Cameras will now be located at both the front door and side of parking lot for both departments.

It was noted that vulnerable community members are serviced at the location including elderly, children and victims.

Commissioners also approved the bridge replacement project on County Road 2050.

Cost of the bridge project is estimated to be $173,000. Commissioners are hopeful that a state bridge improvement fund covers the costs.

The resignation of Chelsie Flinn from the fair board was accepted. She is the new manager of the Roosevelt County Fair. The county will advertise for a new fair board member from the Poplar and Wolf Point areas. Commissioners received notification that Tumblewood Environmental will no longer provide county sanitarian services. The county will consider other options for the services.

During the commissioners’ update portion of the meeting, Commissioner Gordon Oelkers reported about the meetings he attended in Washington, D.C., featuring state association presidents.

Oelkers said concerns of leaders from other states include unfunded mandates and high property taxes. “It seems like everybody has the same issues,” Oelkers said. He added that Montana’s federal delegation supports Roosevelt County obtaining the armory building in Culbertson.

Commissioner Robert Toavs said the annual meeting of the Greater Northern Development Corporation went well. Commissioner Doug Marottek said plans have been agreed upon for satellite voting in Roosevelt County.
