Culbertson Council Hears Construction Updates

The Culbertson Town Council held its regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 15. There were seven members of the public present in the audience.

Rick Knick addressed the council about construction at Big Sky Field. Plans to begin concrete work at the new building site were delayed as freezing temperatures set in.

A visiting engineer on the project said the site would be active as soon as temperatures come up in the spring.

An update was provided for the municipal bathhouse project. Mayor Todd Gabriel said contractors are wrapping up the remainder of work at the site. “I think within a month, they’ll be done,” Gabriel said.

Council members discussed color ideas for pool signage and Culbertson Women’s Club member DeAnne Weeks solicited ideas for improvements to the bathhouse grounds.

The monthly activity report from the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office was reviewed. There were 55 calls for service and 25 citations.

Steve Larsen with the Culbertson Lions Club requested a reduction in rent paid by the organization for meeting space. The group formerly met twice a month at the town hall, but now meets once. The council approved a reduction of $200 to reflect current usage.

Larsen also discussed Lions’ plans to restore signage placed at the entrances to town. He said the project would likely take place next year after the club has fully paid off improvements to Ike’s Fishing Pond and Walking Trail.

Following the regular meeting, the council broke into executive session. The next regular meeting is set for Jan. 12.
