Camping Area Open At Bridge

The Culbertson Bridge Fishing Access Site camping area is now open, along with other improvements.

This past summer, improvements were made at the Culbertson FAS just south of Culbertson along the Missouri River. This site formerly consisted of a boat ramp (sometimes usable, sometimes not; please check water conditions before launching), walk-in access to the river, a vault toilet, a picnic area and some parking. Now it offers camping.

Culbertson Bridge FAS was established in 1999 when it was purchased from a local landowner along with an agreement with the Montana Department of Transportation.

In the past, this FAS was a dayuse area with access from sunrise to sundown. The site is now open 24 hours with the new campsites that were developed this summer. Five primitive campsites are available, each with a gravel pad, picnic table and fire ring.

Camping is free with a seven- night stay limit in a 30-day time period.

Fires are permitted, but only in established fire rings and as long as there are no fire restrictions. A new latrine was also established in the camping loop. Other improvements this year to the FAS included an ADA parking pad at the old latrine, a new and bigger parking area for vehicles with boat trailers and barrier rocks defining and rerouting roadways.

There is no hunting allowed on the site, so discharge of weapons is prohibited year-round. In addition, fireworks are always prohibited on site.
