County commissioners agree that oil activity seems to be on the increase as the year goes on.
Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said the permitting on the eastern part of Roosevelt County has picked up during the last two months. That has included permits for pipelines.
“There’s been more activity on the Montana side of the Montana- North Dakota border,” Oelkers said.
The two most active companies in the area are Kraken Oil and Phoenix Oil.
Oelkers reports that oil activity should continue in eastern Montana as long as prices remain at about $70 a barrel. “That’s what the petroleum association uses for a goal that they want to keep it at,” he said.
Roosevelt County schools also benefited based on the amount of oil activity conducted in their districts.
Topping the list for schools was Bainville with $484,531.06. Culbertson was second with $173,503.02 received.
Other schools and their amounts were Poplar at $17,950.25, Froid at $7,868.94, Wolf Point at $4,144.58, Brockton at $1,070.89 and Frontier at $1,099.60.
