County Fair Kicks Off On Aug. 5 In Culbertson
Plenty of fun is scheduled at the Roosevelt County Fair, which runs from Tuesday, Aug. 5, through Friday, Aug. 8, in Culbertson. This year’s theme is “Fun For The Whole Herd.”
Friday, Aug. 8, is one of the biggest days for the fair. The 4-H/FFA livestock and small animal auction is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. A free meal sponsored by the Culbertson Chamber of Commerce is held prior to the auction sale.
The first day of the fair on Tuesday is highlighted with a youth horse show beginning at 9 a.m. at the saddle club grounds.
Wednesday is Kids Day at the fair. A kids’ farmer market starts at noon. The Farmer Sam Ag Show is scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Money in the Straw sponsored by Opportunity Bank starts at 5 p.m. A small animal show in the arena begins at 5:30 p.m. A team/family activity is planned for 6:30 p.m. A youth dance, tournaments, games and contests are scheduled for 7:4510 p.m.
Cooperative Day is planned for Thursday. The Magic of Circus Stage Show is set for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The 4-H conference judging, FFA and Scouts start at 8:30 a.m. Starting at 4 p.m., there will be showing for goats and sheep and a vintage car and antique tractor show.
There will be a free corn feed starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Also offered is the FFA alumni scholarship barbecue for $15. Dog races, stick horses and an inflatable rodeo are scheduled for 6 p.m.
Mars Daniel will provide a concert starting at 8 p.m. He is an American singer who blends country grit with outlaw spirit. He has been influenced by Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Bo Diddley and UGK.
Activities on Friday will begin with a swine and cattle show at 8:30 a.m. with a peewee show to follow. The traditional Parade of Exhibits to the Roosevelt Medical Center is at 2:30 p.m. The round robin showmanship begins at 4 p.m.

Culbertson’s Payton Labatte is looking forward to showing her steer during the Roosevelt County
Fair this year. Fair dates are Aug. 5-8.
