Council Approves Airport Construction Bid
The Culbertson Town Council held its regular meeting June 9. Rick Knick was on hand to give an update on construction plans for the snow removal equipment building at Big Sky Field airport.
A motion was approved accepting a bid from Corland Construction at $1,099,086 with the town paying a total cost of approximately $37,000 after matching grants from the FAA and other organizations.
“We shrunk the size a little bit and waited for a better bidding environment,” Knick said.
Construction will begin on the SRE building right after the Roosevelt County Fair, with a completion date in late November.
“I’m excited to have both these projects, the bathhouse and this, coming to the table in the same year,” Mayor Todd Gabriel said.
A resolution was passed approving new floodplain hazard management regulations.
Site sketch plans were approved for two fences. A shipping container storage unit was approved for a remodeling project, with a provisional time limit of three years. Jeremy Fadness with WWC Engineering said a zoning update could be employed to address resident concerns about similar structures in the future.
A special permit was approved for the Frontier Days street dance location at the Montana Bar on Broadway Avenue.
Council members reported a record amount trash collected and removed from the community during the town clean-up day last month.
Council member Mark Nelson provided bathhouse construction update. He said the block foundation walls are nearing completion this week.
Lynn Nyquist spoke during public comment about the Thomas and Corinne Nyquist Foundation, providing background on both her family and the titular essay contest, scholarships and grant programs dispensed annually in Bainville, Culbertson and Froid.
She was at the meeting to encourage more grant applications from the Culbertson area. For more information, visit www.nyquistfdtn. org.
