Lady Wolves, Indians Qualify For State Track Meet

 

Two places by junior Amya Martinez in throwing events highlighted Wolf Point’s efforts at the Northern B divisional track meet during the weekend.

Martinez earned fourth in the shot put with a personal best of 35-8 and fifth place in the discus with a personal best of 106-11.

Wolf Point’s girls’ 400-meter relay team featuring Navella Weeks, AnnaLeigh Matejovsky, Harper Weeks and Adalynn Smith finished in fourth place with a time of 52.52 seconds.

Placing sixth were N. Weeks with a time of 28.4 seconds in the 200 and Smith with a personal best time of 1:02.01.

Matejovsky didn’t compete in the long jump, triple jump and pole vault due to an injury suffered during the week’s practice.

The Lady Wolves finished with 12 points for 10th place.

Shelby topped the girls’ standings with 91.5 points followed by Chinook with 88 and Fairview with 71.5 points.

Glasgow’s boys won the team title with 95 points. Fairfield was second with 90 and Fairview took third with 75 points.

In the boys’ division, Sean Hamilton came close to placing as he was seventh in the javelin at 146-4 and ninth in the discus at 122-0.

Poplar’s boys finished with seven points for 10th place. Poplar’s girls scored two points.

Kaniel Ricker led the Indians by taking third in the triple jump with a personal best of 41-5.

Walker Burshia placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 43-8.

Scoring for Poplar’s girls was eighth-grader Journey Gourneau with a personal best time of 12:45.24 in the 3200 for fifth place.

The state meet is scheduled in Missoula this weekend.
