Poplar Wrestlers Earn Honors At Tournament

Poplar took sixth place in the girls’ standings and 26th in the boys’ standings during the Cut Bank wrestling tournament on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Angelina Escarcega won the title at 100 pounds. The senior pinned Huntley Project’s Gracie Bingen in 1:57 for the championship. Escarcega won four matches on pins in the tournament.

Alara Cooper placed second at 115 pounds. She lost in the title match on a pin. Cooper won two matches on pins and another on a decision at the meet.

Liberty Boadle took third at 105 pounds. She pinned Lewistown’s Rebecca Hicks in 1:37 for third place. Boadle won three matches on pins during the tournament.

Blake Follette took fifth place at 120 pounds. She pinned Jefferson’s Marysa LaFromboise in 3:55 for fifth place. Follette won two other matches on pins.

In the boys’ division, Navarjo Escarcega placed second at 138 pounds. He lost a tough 5-2 decision against Huntley Project’s Baylor Burton in the title match. Escarcega won five matches including two on pins.

Also during the tournament, Rollen Spotted Bull won two matches on pins and Jayden Eder won a match on a technical fall.
