Lustre Christian’s girls’ basketball squad captured thirdplace honors at the District 3C tournament with a 44-42 overtime win over Circle on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The Lions were behind by a 25-21 half-time margin and trailed 32-27 late in the third quarter until Alexa Reddig tallied four straight points to cut the gap to 32-31.

Reddig hit a 14-footer to put the Lions ahead 33-32 midway into the fourth quarter.

After Circle’s Madline Moline put the Wildcats up 3533 with 1:48 left, Reddig responded with a 15-footer for a 35-35 deadlock.

A steal and drive by Reddig gave Lustre the lead, but Circle tied the game on a basket by Emma Murphy for a 37-37 deadlock.

A free throw by Lauryn Holzrichter, a basket by Kencia Brown and a steal and drive by Aubri Holzrichter resulted in a 42-39 lead for the Lions in overtime, but Murphy connected on a three-pointer to pull Circle even.

The Lions moved ahead when K. Brown made a free throw with 29 seconds remaining. After Circle missed a shot attempt, Hannah Brown hit a free throw for a 44-42 lead with seven seconds remaining. The Wildcats missed a final shot with a second left.

Lustre’s top scorers were Reddig with 19 and K. Brown with 17 points. Also scoring were A. Holzrichter with six, H. Brown with one and L. Holzrichter with one.

Top scorers for Circle were Moline with 11, Murphy with nine and Allie Kountz with eight points.
