Poplar Girls Edge Froid/Lake, 62-61

Poplar’s Bailey Dupree is only a sophomore, but she showed the composure of a more experienced player when she went to the foul stripe with 2.7 seconds left in the Indians’ home girls’ basketball game against Froid/ Lake on Friday, Jan. 6. Wolf Point’s wrestlers were happy to be back in action this weekend after a long holiday break. The Wolves wrestled in Chester on Thursday, Jan. 5, at their mixer. Poplar’s girls earned third place in the team standings at the Cut Bank Invitational. The Indians scored 64 points at the wrestling meet. Lions Sweep Contests Against Frazer

The Lustre Lions swept basketball games against Frazer on Saturday, Jan. 7. Lustre’s girls downed the Bearcubs by a 52-39 margin. The Lions took a 16-6 lead in the first quarter, but the Bearcubs closed the gap to 21-16 in the second quarter. Jack Svendsen

Jack William Svendsen, 76, died Dec. 25, 2022, in Phoenix, Ariz. He was born June 28, 1946, in Williston, N.D., to Oscar and Maude (Kincaid) Svendsen, the youngest of three, James and Jane Jeppe. Jack grew up in Froid. He attended NMC and the U of M. He married Judy Mossestad in 1966. They had one daughter, Jody Lynn. He was employed by several Montana banks during a 56-year career.

The Poplar Indians got off to a great start but lost at Plentywood by a 51-45 margin on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Poplar jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the non-conference contest and held a 23-18 halftime advantage. “We just went flat,” Poplar coach Gib Medicine Cloud said. “It was our first game coming off the long Christmas break. We didn’t take care of the little things that we need to.”
