The Bainville Bulldogs struggled offensively in the second half and lost to Plentywood, 67-53, at the Eastern C divisional tournament in Wolf Point on Friday, March 3.

The three-point shooting of Ayden Knudsen and a three-point play by Sam Butikofer led the Bulldogs to a 29-18 advantage during the second quarter of action. The Bulldogs enjoyed a 37-27 lead thanks to a drive by Knudsen and an inside shot by Alex Strickland late in the half.

Plentywood, however, ended the half on a high note when a half-court shot attempt by Carson Solberg at the buzzer went in off the backboard to cut the margin to 37-30.

The Wildcats accounted for nine straight points in the third quarter and gained a 41-40 on a three-pointer by Caydon Trupe with 2:54 left in the period.

Bainville stayed close on a three-pointer by Knudsen and a free throw by Charles Butikofer but trailed 47-40 at the end of the quarter.

After two baskets by Trupe opened the fourth period, Strickland connected from three-point range for a 52-47 game. The Wildcats moved ahead by 10 points on a drive by Noah Murray and a three-pointer by Solberg.

Knudsen drove in for a basket with 2:18 left, but Plentywood struck for seven of the next nine points en route to the victory.

Leading the Bulldogs were Knudsen with 20 and Strickland with 19 points. Also scoring were S. Butikofer with seven, C. Butikofer with five and Reese Harmon with two points.

Plentywood’s attack was led by Solberg with 21, Trupe with 19 and Murray with 12 points.
