Wolves Open With Win Over Glasgow

It wasn’t how the Wolves started but rather how they ended that mattered in their semi-final round game against Glasgow at the District 2B boys’ basketball tournament in Malta on Friday, Feb. 17.

The Wolves trailed by as many as nine points in the first half, but Wolf Point dominated the second half for a 68-55 victory.

Down by a 23-14 margin in the second quarter, the Wolves started turning the tide on a basket off a rebound by Lennoxx Lilley and a drive by Juliun Benson closed the gap to 23-18 with 1:53 left in the half.

After Glasgow’s Jordan Cook hit two free throws, Wolf Point’s Gaige Bushman accounted for a three-point play. A basket by Benson off a steal by Bushman cut the margin to 27-23 at the half.

The Wolves then went ahead to stay with the first two points of the third quarter on a pair of three-pointer by Kraven Silk, a 17-footer by Benson and a drive by Bushman for a 33-27 advantage.

The Scotties got the margin down to 39-34 on a three-pointer by KJ Ingram, but the Wolves struck for the next eight points on four points by Bushman, a baseline shot by Cade Stafne and a layup by Benson. Wolf Point held a 47-36 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Wyatt Babb got hot for the Scotties in the fourth quarter, but three-pointers by Benson, Bushman and Kelby Bauer were good for a 60-44 advantage with 5:30 remaining.

Top scorers for the Wolves were Bushman with 19 and Benson with 13 points.

Also scoring were Silk with 10, Peyton Summers with four, Stafne with four, Jack Kolstad with three, Bauer with three and Lilley with two points.

Cade Hudyma led the Scotties with 19 points including seven in the first quarter. Babb finished with 11 points.
