Roosevelt Ranks 48th For Unemployment Rate

Prairie, Powder River and Carter are the Montana counties with the lowest unemployment rates, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Montana’s overall unemployment rate was at 3 percent for September.

Montana remains one of the top states with the lowest unemployment as our workforce grows and businesses create more good-paying jobs,” Gov. Greg Gianforte said. “Through our new initiative, 406 JOBS, we will continue to unlock pathways to work so all eligible Montanans are able to thrive in a meaningful career.”

Montana’s unemployment rate was 1.4 percent lower than the national unemployment rate, which was 4.4 percent in September. Montana remained in the top 10 of states in the nation with the lowest unemployment rates.

Counties leading the way were Prairie at 1.7 percent, Powder River at 1.8 and Carter at 2.2. Tied for third at 2.3 percent were Daniels, Fallon, Garfield, Liberty, Park and Richland.

Roosevelt County ranked 48th at 3.9 percent. The county was tied with Wheatland. The only counties with highest unemployment rates were Sanders at 4.5, Musselshell at 4.1, Granite at 4 and Glacier at 4.

Other eastern Montana counties included Dawson and McCone tied for 20th at 2.7 percent, Sheridan and Valley tied for 23rd at 2.8 percent and Phillips in 14th at 2.6 percent.
