Poplar Wrestlers Finish Second In Team Standings

 

Poplar’s girls’ wrestling team earned second place at the Choteau Invitational during the weekend.

The Indians finished with 83 points right behind Simms with 85.5 points. Florence- Carlton took third with 78 points.

Angelina Escarcega captured the championship at 107 pounds. She opened with a pin in 1:33 against Choteau’s Miley Crabb and then pinned Simms’ Hayley Petersen in 2:55 during semi-final round action. Escarcega pinned Conrad’s Ava Krings in 2:38 for the championship.

Blake Follette placed fourth at 107 pounds. In her first three matches, Follette won one match on a pin and another on a decision. She lost a close 4-2 decision in the third-place match.

Alara Parshall earned fourth place at 120 pounds. After losing in the semi-final round, Parshall scored a pin in the next round. She was defeated by a 14-6 margin in the third-place match.

Kacie Colgan took fifth place at 120 pounds. She won four matches on pins during the tournament including a pin in the fifth-place match.

Poplar’s boys scored 33 points for 19th place.

Navarjo Escarcega earned third place at 126 pounds. He won his first two matches on a pin and a 4-2 decision. After dropping a tough 3-2 decision in the semi-final round, Escarcega came back for two victories for third place.

Craig Berg won two matches on pins at 170 pounds.

Rollen Spotted Bull earned a victory by fall at 285 pounds.
