Froid High School senior Abigail Strandlund has certainly earned her fair share of academic accomplishments during the past several weeks.

First, Strandlund took fifth place in accounting at the state Business Professionals of America competition. That placing qualified her for the national conference scheduled in Dallas, Texas, this May.

Then, she qualified in three events for state during the district music festival.

Strandlund said that music is her favorite school activity. She plays the clarinet, but she also enjoys singing.

She has even performed the National Anthem prior to home basketball games during the last three years. Even though she admits it’s a challenging song, she doesn’t get nervous singing it in front of the school’s large fan base. “I’ve gotten used to it,” she said.

Strandlund has also achieved success in Froid’s FFA program. She has placed third for livestock judging in a group competition.

“I live on a farm so I like looking and judging animals,” Strandlund said, noting that her family raises pigs and chickens. “It helps me with what I do on the farm.”

She says her favorite classes are advanced accounting and history. She feels fortunate to have grown up in the Froid area.

“The small community allows you to know everybody,” she said.

After high school, she will attend the University of Montana and major in business management and accounting.

First, she needs to prepare and deliver the valedictorian speech at Froid’s graduation.

“It’s creeping up on me,” Strandlund laughed about having the speech ready, but adds that she already has most of the speech written.
