Marijuana Sales Increase In Roosevelt, Richland Counties

In the first year of legal recreational marijuana sales in the state. monthly sales keep increasing in Roosevelt County and throughout Montana.

According to the Montana Department of Revenue, Roosevelt County experienced $174,625 in estimated cannabis sales to adults during March. In addition, there were $204,364 medical sales for a total of $378,990.

Those figures are significant increases in relationship to the previous two months. Roosevelt County had estimated cannabis sales to adults of $117,303 and medical sales of $214,698 during January. The figures were $137,921 in estimated adult sales and $201,388 in medical sales during February.

The amount of sales in Richland County were $509,292 for adults and $78,233 in medical sales during March.

Estimated sales in Richland County were $370,798 for adults and $68,122 for medical during January. Figures for February were $429,601 for adults and $70,331 for medical sales.

In Montana, the state had $15.9 million in sales during March compared to $13.5 million in February and $14.1 million the month before.

Both Roosevelt and Richland counties are having voters decide on a 3 percent local option marijuana excise tax in their June elections.

If passed by voters, the revenues generated will be split three ways between the county, municipalities and the state. The county would keep 50 percent of revenues raised, with 45 percent going to municipalities and 5 percent slated for administration costs at the state level.
