Online Fundraiser Hosted For RCSO’s Ellerton
Family and supporters of Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Ellerton are conducting fundraising efforts on his behalf, following a preliminary diagnosis of carcinoma.
Ellerton said a carcinoma on his leg was biopsied and has likely metastasized to his lungs.
Ellerton has been with the department for over two years. The 27-year-old and his dog, Hati, have been trained and certified to serve the department as a K9 drug detection and search team.
Ellerton said the process of diagnosis is in the early stages, “The community has been incredible,” said Ellerton. “I think my odds are pretty good.” Ellerton said that family and friends have been keeping his spirits high.
Ellerton said a mounting pain in his leg during his recovery from COVID-19 led doctors to take a closer look at a previously unnoticed sarcoma.
Ellerton is in the process of scheduling a biopsy at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Wash., over the coming weeks. He said a plan of treatment will be developed at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, a treatment and research center. Despite insurance, costs are likely to be sizable. Ellerton’s father, Shawn, has created a fund online to support his treatment and recovery. At press time, the fund had raised $13,432 of an initial goal of $20,000.
