In a back-and-forth Class C six-man football battle, Savage edged Bainville, 34-20, for Bainville’s homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Trailing by a 14-6 margin in the third quarter, the Bulldogs gained possession at the 34 after a fumble recovery by Sam Butikofer midway into the third quarter.

On third down, Jesse Strickland connected with Conner Wade for a first down at the Savage 30. Strickland then connected with Wade again for a first down at the eight.

From there, Strickland scrambled in for a touchdown with 3:53 left in the third quarter. The senior also kicked the conversion for a 14-14 deadlock.

Savage, however, responded with a 79-yard touchdown drive. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Caesn Erickson hit Hunter Riding for a three-yard touchdown pass to put the score at 20-14.

After Bainville’s next possession was stopped on a sack by Sterling Thiel, Savage reached the end zone on a 17-yard run by Cade Tombre with 5:51 left. Thiel kicked the conversion for a 28-14 margin.

The Bulldogs picked up a first down at the Savage 37 on a 28-yard pass play from Strickland to Braeden Romo. Strickland then hit Wade for another first down at the four. A throw from Strickland to Wade pulled the Bulldogs to 28-20 with 4:37 remaining.

Strickland then recovered an on-sides kick, but Bainville lost the ball on a fumble to Lane Papka on first down. The Warriors scored on a 16yard pass play from Erickson to Riding for a 34-20 advantage with 3:01 left.

Bainville’s next drive ended on a tough fourth-down incompletion with about two minutes remaining.

The game started with Bainville scoring on a 20-yard pass play from Strickland to Wade with 7:04 remaining in the first quarter.

Savage got on the scoreboard when Thiel reached the end zone on an 11-yard run with 35 seconds left in the period. Thiel kicked the conversion for an 8-6 score.

The score stayed that way until Erickson scored on a nine-yard run to put Savage up 14-6 with 8:40 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs will face the Richey/Lambert Fusion in Lambert starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15.
