The game was cornhole as Bainville’s residents gathered at Sgt. Michael W. Picard Memorial Field for a fun evening on Saturday, July 24.

Tanya Wilson, the school’s activities director, moved forward with the idea of having a cornhole tournament as a fundraiser for athletics. The event attracted 17 adult two-player teams and eight student teams.

“We just jumped on it,” Wilson said of the idea.

Some other communities, including Fairview, have conducted cornhole tournaments as fundraisers for the past several years.

“Cornhole is so big, everybody wants to play it,” Bainville’s girls’ basketball coach Brandy Hansen added.

Each of the athletic teams as well as area businesses donated silent auction items, other donations or volunteered.

The event raised $3,500.

Wilson said it was great having a community event at the school near the end of summer and hopes it becomes an annual activity.

Among those making donations were Andy and Tawny Ullmer, Nabors Drilling, ONEOK, Oil Patch Group, CrossFit Infliction, Laura Iverson, Butikofers and Rocky Mountain Fencing.

Prior to the cornhole tournament, a hamburger and brat feed was conducted for a free-will donation. Winners for the cornhole tournament were Jaden Strickland and Jesse Strickland in the adult division, Sam Butikofer and Trevor Robertus in the 12-17 age division and Parker Berwick and Logan Schmidt in the 12 and under age division.
