By Bill Vander Weele Culbertson High School senior Hunter Lucas is a proud member of the school and community.

“It’s a good school and everybody gets along well with each other,” Lucas said.

He explains his favorite classes are history and JMG.

“I like history and how the teacher teaches it,” Lucas said.

His favorite teachers include Jens Nielsen, Janelle Ator, Marcy Machart and Dave Solem.

Lucas plans to attend Montana State University-Northern and study to become a diesel technician.

“I grew up around vehicles and all my friends did too,” Lucas said.

His high school activities include football and basketball. He played each sport for all four years of high school.

He prefers football over basketball. “Playing on a field is better than on a court,” Lucas said. Plus, he likes the more physical nature of football.

His favorite football memory came when he was a sophomore and Culbertson defeated Scobey. He remembers Bryan Pederson making a key fumble recovery. “It was a memorable moment,” Lucas said.

Lucas has been a force for the Cowboys so far this basketball season.

“I figured I can shoot the ball more,” Lucas said. “I feel more confident taking charges.” He looks forward to the rest of this season.

“Hopefully, we can win more games and make it to divisionals,” Lucas said. “We need to build as a team.”
