Red Hawks Drop High-Scoring Game

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks gave their home crowd an exciting start, scoring three touchdowns and building a 21-12 first-quarter lead against the Plevna Cougars on Saturday. The Red Hawks continued to compete throughout the high-scoring matchup before Plevna rallied for a 6233 victory.

Playing before their home crowd, the Red Hawks answered Plevna’s opening touchdown with a 25-yard scoring pass to Jake Nordlund. Carsen Aasheim then connected with Carsen Kelm on the conversion, giving Froid/Lake a 7-6 lead.

After Plevna moved back in front, the Red Hawks responded again. Jhett Davidson found Aasheim for a 15yard touchdown pass with 3:21 remaining in the first quarter, putting Froid/Lake ahead 13-12.

Aasheim later connected with Nordlund for another touchdown and kicked the conversion, giving the Red-Hawks a 21-12 advantage at the end of a busy opening quarter.

The momentum shifted in the second quarter as Plevna scored 18 unanswered points and took a 30-21 lead into halftime.

The Cougars added two more touchdowns during the third quarter, but the Red-Hawks refused to go quietly. Aasheim connected with Easton Marotek for a 19-yard touchdown to complete a 44yard drive, cutting Plevna’s lead to 43-27 with 3:15 remaining in the quarter.

Froid/Medicine Lake continued its comeback attempt early in the fourth. Aasheim found Davidson for a 12-yard touchdown pass, bringing the Red Hawks within 10 points at 43-33 with 7:56 left to play.

Plevna pulled away in the closing minutes, scoring three touchdowns to secure the 62-33 victory.
