A new track and a refurbished gym are awaiting Wolf Point High School’s and junior high’s student athletes to use for this summer and the upcoming school year.

Wolf Point Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins said that the gym’s floor has been repainted and refinished.

“I’m happy with it,” Perkins said of the work done.

The cost to give the gym a bright look was about $78,000. Perkins said such work needs to be performed about every eight to 10 years.

“We had different things on the floor that I wanted to fix,” Perkins said. “It looks nice now though.”

The $1.495 million track project is now completed and appears very impressive.

Perkins believes the post-tensioned track surface will result in many track meets being held in Wolf Point.

The project also featured extending the jumping pits and high jump area.

There will be pads to walk across when students are wearing football cleats.

“That gym is a centerpiece of the community in many ways,” Perkins said. “The track is a big pull as well.”

Perkins stresses the importance of taking care of both the gym floor and the track. Only indoor shoes should be allowed on the gym floor, and the track can’t permit skateboards or bikes. “If you damage it, you should pay for it. It shouldn’t be the district,” Perkins said.
