Cowboys Run To District 2C Track Championship
Culbertson’s track athletes came through with a banner day at the District 2C track meet held in Lambert on Tuesday, May 12.
The Cowboys cruised to the team title with 186 points. Bainville placed second with 144 points and Savage took third with 86 points.
In the girls’ division, defending state champion Richey/Lambert claimed first with 157 points. Culbertson earned second with 97 points and Bainville took third with 80 points.
Brooks Solem and Trust Magwaba were each multiple event winners for the Cowboys.
Solem earned first in the shot put at 41-3, first in the discus at 123-3, first in the javelin at 164-4, first in the 110-meter hurdles at 17.95 seconds and first in the high jump by clearing 6-0. He received the Phil Robinson award for being the male with the most points scored.
Magwaba, a freshman, finished first in the 100 at 11.52 seconds and first in the 200 at 24.07 seconds.
Both of the Cowboys’ relay teams took first place. The 400-meter relay team featuring Harrison Green, Ian Snyder, Mauricio Mena and Magwaba had a time of 45.67 seconds. The 1600-meter relay team consisting of Mena, Snyder, Magwaba and Green finished in 3:53.12.
Placing second for the Cowboys were Green with a time of 24.16 seconds in the 200, Cal Steppler with a time of 11:44.49 in the 3200, Plenny Williams with a mark of 15911 in the javelin and Snyder by clearing 6-0 in the high jump.
Taking third were Williams with a mark of 106-7 in the discus and 36-1 in the shot put, Tyler White Cloud with a time of 59.83 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles and Green with a time of 11.74 seconds in the 100.
Earning fourth were Snyder with a time of 11.92 seconds in the 100, Magwaba at 54.56 in the 400, Steppler at 5:13.81 in the 1600, White Cloud with a best of 32-0 in the triple jump, and Bennie Sullivan by clearing 5-2 in the high jump and a mark of 16-7 in the long jump.

Taking fifth were Logan Berwick with a mark of 34-6 in the shot put, Steppler with a time of 2:19.75 in the 800 and Green with a time of 54.97 in the 400.
Placing sixth were Sullivan at 12.11 in the 100, Snyder at 25.33 in the 200, Berwick at 90-6 in the discus and Micah Eagleboy at 116-1 in the javelin.
Anna Steppler, a freshman, led the Cowgirls with three victories. She finished first in the 800 at 2:36.54, first in the 1600 at 5:46.32 and first in the 3200 at 13:20.32.
The 1600-meter relay team consisting of Kalia Featherston, Bella Petersen, Steppler and Ally Simonsen finished first with a time of 4:46.62.
Placing second were Ally Simonsen with a time of 1:01.03 in the 300-meter hurdles, and Emma Berwick with a best of 34-9 in the shot put and a mark of 98-6 in the discus.
The 400-meter relay team of Aubry Salvevold, Featherston, Simonsen and Petersen placed second at 58.18 seconds.
Taking fourth were Emilynn Powell by clearing 4-4 in the high jump, Charity Wilbanks with a mark of 88-0 in the javelin and Petersen with a time of 30.37 seconds in the 200.
Placing fifth were Stella Fox with a time of 7:24.16 in the 1600, Ayden Ator with a mark of 85-6 in the javelin and Simonsen with a mark of 13-5 in the long jump.
Taking sixth were Jade LoneBear with a time of 8:03.20 in the 1600, Wilbanks at 1:12.99 in the 400 and Petersen with a time of 14.35 seconds in the 100.
