Brockton Boys Take Culbertson
Brockton’s boys’ basketball team gained the upper-hand early and defeated Culbertson, 82-44, in Culbertson on Thursday, Feb. 5.
The Warriors tallied the first seven points in the game involving the top two teams in the District 2C standings. Getting Brockton off to the good start were a basket by Tefton Bear off an assist from Miles Boxer, a hoop off a rebound by Colter Nygard and a three-pointer by Josh Firemoon.
A drive by Brooks Solem got the Cowboys on the scoreboard, but Brockton went out to a 14-3 lead with a three-pointer by Firemoon being a highlight.
After the inside scoring of Weston Lambert led the Warriors to an 18-5 lead, the Cowboys’ Cal Steppler hit a three-pointer to close the margin to 18-8.
The Warriors tallied the next 11 points on hoops by Boxer, Lambert, Bear and Ronnie Black Dog.
The Cowboys, who played the game without three players due to injuries, scored the final point of the quarter on a free throw by Steppler for a 29-9 margin.
Culbertson ended the second quarter on a pair of free throws by Ian Snyder. Brockton led by a 45-22 half-time margin.
The Warriors finished the third quarter with a 69-36 advantage. Baskets by Nygard and Boxer to open the fourth period put the margin at 7336.
Brockton’s top scorers were Firemoon with 18, Black Dog with 16, Bear with 13 and Boxer with 10.
Reaching double figures for the Cowboys were Solem with 14, Steppler with 13 and I. Snyder with 12. Cord Snyder added three and Tyler White Cloud had two.
