Bulldogs Nip Red Hawks In 2C Game
Bainville’s girls’ basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to edge Froid/Lake, 50-45, on Saturday, Jan. 10 The Bulldogs led 25-17 at the half, but Froid/Lake closed the gap to 36-35 to end the third quarter.
Down by a 37-35 margin, the Red Hawks struck for seven straight points on a three-pointer by Keira Stentoft and four points by Atley Jensen for a 43-37 advantage with 4:21 left.
The Bulldogs responded with an inside basket by Lila Butikofer and a baseline shot by Addison Hansen to pull to 43-41.
After Froid/Lake’s Jensen hit two free throws, Bainville’s Hailey Berwick accounted for a 17-footer and a steal and drive for a 45-45 deadlock with 1:27 remaining.
The Bulldogs took the lead on a 15-footer by Butikofer with 51 seconds left.
After a free throw by Hansen made the score 48-45 with 13 seconds left, the Red Hawks turned over the ball. Two free throws by Jodi Albus put the contest away with 4.5 seconds remaining.
Bainville’s top scorers were Berwick with 17 and Butikofer with 10 points.
Also scoring were Hansen with eight, Chandi Johnson with eight and Albus with seven.
Jensen finished with 18 points for the Red Hawks.
Also scoring were Isabelle Nordwick with seven, Laytyn Davidson with seven, Jordyn Breuer with five, Stentoft with five and Joelle Davidson with three.
