Wolves Earn Victories During Opening Basketball Tournament

Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team improved its record to 2-0 on the young season with a 57-36 victory over St. Ignatius in Great Falls on Saturday, Dec. 6. “I thought we played pretty well this weekend for the most part. We got a lot of work on our presses as well as we got a lot of good experience for our younger players and bench that will be valuable during conference games,” Wolf Point Coach Cole Hanks said. “It was good to see the captains step up and lead well on the floor. It’s good to start the season 2-0 and with some confidence going into next week in Lockwood. I’m proud of all the boys.”

The Wolves jumped out to an 18-10 lead in the first quarter as Zandon Calder scored six of Wolf Point’s points.

Ahead by a 24-12 margin, the Wolves accounted for eight of the final 10 points of the half on a pair of three-pointers by Reed Garfield and a basket by Calder for a 32-14 advantage.

Three-pointers by Jett Azure and Sean Hamilton highlighted play in the third quarter. The Wolves led 41-23 at the end of the period.

The Bulldogs fought back to 41-28 early in the fourth quarter, but the Wolves struck for the next seven points on two baskets by Hamilton, a fastbreak hoop by Andrew Williamson and a free throw by Jesse Foote. Two baskets by Foote and a layup by Roper Flaten put the margin at 54-31.

Top scorers for the Wolves were Hamilton with 11 and Calder with 10 points.

Also scoring were Andrew Williamson with seven, Roper Flaten with six, Garfield with six, Azure with five, Jesse Foote with five, Josh Jackson with four, Richard Campbell with two and Kayden Charette with one.

After experiencing a slow start, Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team downed Rocky Boy, 74-45, during the Native American Classic in Great Falls on Friday, Dec. 5.

The Wolves fell behind by a 30-16 margin in the opening quarter. Wolf Point then responded with 26 points in the second quarter to grab a 42-38 half-time lead.

Zandon Calder led the offensive outburst in the second period with 11 points. Sean Hamilton, Stone Lilley and Richard Campbell each added five points in the period.

The Wolves held a 54-53 lead at the end of the third quarter. Hamilton and Calder each scored four points in the period. Reed Garfield fired in a three-pointer.

The Wolves outscored Rocky Boy by an 18-6 margin in the fourth period to earn the victory. Campbell scored six points and Calder had five in the period.

Top scorers for the Wolves were Calder with 18, Campbell with 14 and Hamilton with 13 points.

Also scoring were Lilley with seven, Andrew Williamson with six, Roper Flaten with six, Garfield with three and Jett Azure with one.
